  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District awards contract for additional improvements to Stanford Run watershed in Cuyahoga Valley National Park

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Buffalo District awarded a $50,000 contract to Buffalo, New York-based Armitage Architecture, P.C. on September 24 for additional vegetation planting to improve the Stanford Run watershed located in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The Stanford Run watershed project reestablishes connectivity to the Cuyahoga River under the Ohio and Erie Canal towpath. The project began in 2017 and was substantially completed in January 2020. Additional vegetation planting builds on the project’s success and is scheduled to start in late October 2021.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and City of Independence to sign agreement for flood damage reduction project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Buffalo District, City of Independence Mayor Gregory P. Kurtz, and the Independence Continuing Authorities Program 205 project team will sign a Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) for a flood damage reduction project on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at 7900 Old Rockside Rd, Independence, OH 44131 (see map on following page). The $8 million project will reduce the risk of damage from continual overbank flooding along the Cuyahoga River and protect vulnerable residential and business properties in the City of Independence.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to construct fish passage demonstration project in Buffalo

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District, on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, awarded a $1.6 million contract to Bidco Marine Group on June 23, 2021 for a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative fish passage demonstration project along the Niagara River, adjacent to Broderick Park in the City of Buffalo, NY. The emerald shiner is a small prey fish and a critical component of the Niagara River and Lake Erie food web. Hardened shorelines along the Niagara River create high water velocities that strictly limit the ability of emerald shiner to migrate into Lake Erie, posing a threat to populations of these prey fish and the larger fish and wildlife populations that depend on them.
  • USACE Releases Feasibility Study and Proposed Plan for Former Guterl Specialty Steel Site, Virtual Public Meeting to be Conducted

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, completed the Proposed Plan for the Former Guterl Specialty Steel Corporation Site and the Feasibility Study Report, Former Guterl Specialty Steel Corporation.   • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers completes Rochester Harbor east pier repairs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, and its contractor, Dean Marine & Excavating, Inc., completed the $3.4 million, 600 feet of repair of the Rochester Harbor east pier, located in Rochester, New York, June 16, 2021 The section repaired is in the middle of previously repaired sections, and was close to the original construction, where the concrete cap was in poor condition and structurally degraded. Repair of the remaining approximately 400 feet of degraded reach of the east pier would be dependent upon receiving additional funding.
  • Construction begins on the Vermilion Harbor east pier

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, and its contractor, Kovilic Construction Company Inc., began repairs of the Vermilion Harbor east pier, located in Vermilion, Ohio, on 11 June 2021. The current $1.825 million contract was awarded on September 30, 2020. The Corps of Engineers is using available funds to repair 216 feet of the most degraded section of the Vermilion Harbor east pier. Repair of the remaining degraded reach of the east pier is dependent upon receiving additional funding.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to resume Great Sodus, Charles Point Repairs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District and its contractor Michigan-based Great Lakes Dock & Materials, L.L.C will resume repairs the first week of April 2021 to the east breakwater in Great Sodus Harbor, located in Sodus Bay, Village of Sodus Point, Wayne County, NY.
  • USACE Buffalo District releases FY20 Flood Damage Reduction Report

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District flood damage reduction projects prevented $137.9 million of flood damage in New York and Ohio during Fiscal Year 2020 and prevented approximately $4.25 billion in cumulative damages over the life span of the projects.
  • USACE Buffalo District receives $140.5 million in FY21 Work Plan

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District received a total of $140,542,000 in the Fiscal Year 2021 Work Plan to complete projects across the District’s area of responsibility. This includes the $34,405,000 the District had already received in the Fiscal Year 2021 President’s Budget.
