  • Draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact - Fairport Harbor Nearshore Placement Area, Lake County, Ohio

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, has prepared a Draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (EA/FONSI) for establishing a new nearshore placement area for dredged sediment from Fairport Harbor federal navigation channels. The preferred 62.78-acre site is located approximately 2.3 miles west of Fairport Harbor's west breakwater and was selected to avoid impacts to a newly constructed pier at the existing nearshore area. Public comments are being accepted until March 20, 2026.

    This is a public meeting reschedule announcement for the Morgan Shoal NEPA planning project. The original October 9, 2025, meeting was postponed due to government funding lapse and has been rescheduled to March 5, 2026. The public comment period for the draft NEPA document (released September 10, 2025) will close March 27, 2026.

  • EVALUATING INNOVATIVE HAB CONTROL MEASURES IN PRESQUE ISLE BAY, LAKE ERIE, PA

    This is a NEPA scoping information document that describes the studies planned to take place in Presque Isle Bay, Lake Erie, PA. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Princeton Hydro LLC are currently conducting a study to determine the feasibility of demonstrating the use of a clay to manage harmful algal blooms (HABs) in lacustrine systems.

  • IDENTIFICATION, TARGETED INTERVENTION, AND MONITORING OF HARMFUL ALGAL BLOOMS IN RIVERINE ECOSYSTEMS

    This is the NEPA scoping information document for a study the the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The USACE and University of Toledo are currently conducting a study to determine the feasibility of demonstrating the use of various control methods to manage harmful algal blooms in riverine systems. The locations of study include aquatic sites located in multiple areas within the Maumee River watershed, along the Miami and Erie Canal, which have previously shown to be hotspots for blooms of cyanobacteria.

  • Notice of Availability: Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Enbridge Line 5 Tunnel Project

    Announcement for the Notice of Availability of a Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Enbridge Line 5 Tunnel Project, Emmet and Mackinac Counties, Michigan. Detroit District, Permit Application No. LRE-2010-00463-56-A19. The Notice of Availability for the Final EIS was published in the Federal Register on February 6, 2026. The Final EIS is available for public review beginning on February 6, 2026, on the project website at www.line5tunneleis.com. The Final EIS addresses the potential environmental impacts of the proposed project and reasonable alternatives to the project. The Final EIS will inform USACE’s Record of Decision and permit decision on the application, which will be completed no sooner than 30 days after Final EIS publication.

Consolidation of Studies

The Water Resources Development Act establishes a single-phase cost-shared study process that for each feasibility study undertaken, the district engineer will develop a detailed study schedule and notify the non-federal interests.
