    Kentucky Lock will be closed to navigation daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST starting Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, and will reopen to navigation at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, then close 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, and reopen at 6 p.m. to make repairs to the downstream river wall air seals. Traffic may pass by taking the alternate route via Barkley Lock and the Barkley Canal.

    The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District has prepared a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and unsigned Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Revision of the Lake Cumberland Shoreline Management Plan (SMP). The 2023 SMP update would introduce additional development areas within existing water-based leases and provide for the expansion of existing private dock facilities. The Corps of Engineers seeks public comment within 30 days to ensure consideration in the final EA.

    Navigation Notice 23-43: The Tennessee Valley Authority is working on transmission lines just below Wheeler Dam. Work begins Oct. 30, 2023, and will continue for about eight days. Work is taking place daily from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Three boats are positioned as safety boats with white and yellow flashing lights. One will have a U.S. Coast Guard licensed master of towing vessel so a good line of communication can be maintained between the project and commercial traffic. Its call sign is TVA1. The fourth boat is a police boat with blue lights to maintain safety of recreation vessels, and its call sign is TVA2.sels, and its call sign is TVA2.

    Development of Cultural Resources Management Plan and Programmatic Agreement for the Soo Locks TO: All INTERESTED AGENCIES, PUBLIC GROUPS, AND CITIZENS The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Detroit District, proposes to update the Cultural Resources Management Plan for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, St. Marys Falls Canal (Soo Locks), Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and develop a new Programmatic Agreement (PA) to implement the updated CRMP. The Soo Locks is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and has been designated a National Historic Landmark (NHL). This notice is provided pursuant to Section 800.6 of 36 C.F.R Part 800, Protection of Historic Properties, and Section 106 of 54 U.S.C. Subtitle III, National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).     The Detroit District is proposing to rehabilitate the riprap shoreline protection along the Duluth Ship Canal property immediately north of the ship canal and extending along the shore for approximately 200 feet. Part of the reconstruction work is below the Ordinary High Water Mark (OHWM) of Lake Superior (elevation of 603.1 feet IGLD 1985). Associated upland work includes installation of a steel sheet pile T-wall along the length of the revetment that connects to the City of Duluth’s T-wall, replacement of the existing sidewalk and reconstructing two existing storm drains.
