Detroit District receives $558.9 million investment from FY25 Work Plan

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, is receiving a total allocation in the Operations & Maintenance account of $291.2 million in the Work Plan, released May 15, 2025, for connecting channels and harbor projects, $264.1 million for the New Lock at the Soo construction project and $3.6 million to conduct investigation studies. The released work plan provides the entire appropriation for the Corps of Engineers under the yearlong continuing resolution that was passed. “This is an exciting opportunity for the Detroit District team to provide solutions to our regional infrastructure,” said Detroit District Commander Lt. Col. Wallace Bandeff. “Repairing, maintaining and improving our federal harbors and infrastructure is essential to bring resiliency to our communities, our economy and the environment. I know the Detroit District team and our partners are ready to deliver these historic investments!"

USACE Work Plan Delivers More Than $235M for Infrastructure Improvements, Dredging, Environmental Remediation, and More Across NY, PA, OH

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District received a total of $235.6 million in the Fiscal Year 2025 Work Plan for Army Civil Works to strengthen critical infrastructure across three states and the shoreline of lakes Erie and Ontario and for Manhattan Project Cleanup. The work plan funding adds to the hundreds of millions of dollars for projects and programs the Buffalo District is already delivering in FY25, paving the way for significant civil works, navigation, and environmental improvements across its 38,000 square mile area of responsibility.

Corps of Engineers dredging St. Joseph Harbor starting May 13

The U.S. Corps of Engineers, Detroit District will start dredging outer St. Joseph Harbor on May 13 to keep the federal channel open. The purpose of dredging is to remove shoaling and to perform preventative maintenance at the harbor mouth to avoid interruptions to the commercial shipping season

Nolin River Lake recreational facilities impacted by high water

As the recreation season approaches, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District is providing an update regarding USACE-managed recreation areas at Nolin River Lake in Bee Spring, Kentucky, as it pertains to the recent high-water event. Nolin River Lake is working to assess, clean, and repair recreation facilities affected by spring flooding. Based on current conditions, we are adjusting our anticipated opening schedule as follows (subject to change).

Dredging Starting in Barcelona Harbor

Dredging of the Barcelona Harbor federal navigation channel by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District and its contractor, Michigan-based Ryba Marine Construction Company will begin May 15. Dredging will clear regular sediment build-up, as well as shoaling from overtopping of the harbor’s west breakwater, ensuring safe navigation and accessible depths for vessels traveling the Great Lakes.

Corps of Engineers seeks office lease proposal interest in Nashville Area

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is inviting real estate professionals and property owners to submit potential office space solutions in the Nashville area. The District has released a beta solicitation to gauge market interest to lease at least 95,000 contiguous rentable square feet of fully serviced Class A or B office space. The proposed lease term is 20 years, with a one-year firm term, under the Corps’ leasing authority, Title 10 U.S. Code § 2661.

Summer Dredging in Ashtabula Continues Building of Wetland Habitat

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District awarded a $1.5 million contract to Toledo-based Geo. Gradel Co. on May 7 to conduct dredging of the federal navigation channel in Ashtabula Harbor. Material dredged will be placed in USACE’s beneficial use project in Ashtabula’s outer harbor, continuing the creation of up to 16.5 acres of new wetland habitat and significantly improving the condition of the harbor for native plant and animal life on Lake Erie.

Bald Eagles Prompt Temporary Closure of Select Shenango River Lake Campsites

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District will temporarily close select campsites at Shenango River Lake, beginning May 9, to protect a nesting pair of federally-protected bald eagles in compliance with federal wildlife laws.
