  • Dredging operations to begin in Manistee Harbor federal channel

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District will dredge the Manistee Harbor federal channel to ensure safe navigation as early as Sunday, Sept. 21 — weather dependent. The maintenance project will remove seasonal shoaling at the mouth of the channel, which impacts commercial traffic when left unaddressed.  
  • Corps of Engineers Updates Ohio Harbor Community with FY25-26 Dredging Newsletter

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District has published the Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Ohio Dredging Newsletter to inform stakeholders and the public about the about the status of dredging of Lake Erie harbors and initiatives for the coming year. Dredging of harbors across Ohio ensures accessible depths for large vessels, the continued flow of commodities across the Great Lakes, and the economic viability of United States waterways.
  • Niagara Falls Storage Site Vicinity Property H Prime Remedial Investigation, Proposed Plan and Public Meeting

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District has completed a remedial investigation report and released the proposed plan for Niagara Falls Storage Site, Vicinity Property H Prime (VP-H’), located in the Town of Porter, Niagara County, New York. This proposed plan recommends no remedial action for NFSS VP-H’, a four-acre parcel that is currently owned by Chemical Waste Management (CWM), Inc.
  • U.S. 127 road to close briefly at Wolf Creek Dam Sept. 15 and 18

    U.S. Highway 127 across Wolf Creek Dam will be closed on Sept. 15 and 18, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for crane operations related to spillway gate rehabilitation. Closures will be brief, with emergency and school traffic accommodated, and message boards will provide updates.
  • Lillydale Day Use Recreation Area closing for repairs

    ALLONS, Tenn. (Sept. 8, 2025) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that Lillydale Day Use Recreation Area, to include its picnic and swimming area on Dale Hollow Lake, is temporarily closing for maintenance and repairs starting Sept. 15, 2025. The closure is expected to last for several weeks.
  • Old Hickory Lock closure scheduled for Aug 27-28

    Old Hickory Lock will be closed to all navigation traffic from August 27–28, 2025, for scheduled maintenance to replace approximately 3,000 gallons of hydraulic oil in the gates and valve cylinders. Normal operations will resume on August 29, with daily hours from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m.
  • Corps of Engineers and City of Oswego Celebrate Significant Breakwater Repairs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District and their partners celebrated the completion of a multi-year repair of Oswego’s West Arrowhead Breakwater and the start of construction on its Outer West Breakwater. Breakwaters protect the Port of Oswego – the first U.S. port of call on the Great Lakes. Its strategic location puts it less than 350 miles from 60 million people and 750 miles from half of the U.S. and Canadian populations. The Port of Oswego is home to 14 companies that utilize the Port for domestic and international operations with a far-reaching economic impact.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes and Ohio River Division Welcomes New Commander

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Great Lakes and Ohio River Division (LRD) welcomed its new commander, Col. Daniel J. Herlihy, during a Change of Command ceremony today at the John W. Peck Federal Building in Cincinnati.
  • USACE to conduct routine dam maintenance activities at Barren River Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District will be conducting dam maintenance activities at Barren River Lake in Glasgow, Kentucky, which could impact public access to the tailwater area. These activities are tentatively scheduled to begin Aug. 10 and last through Aug. 17, 2025.
  • USACE, City of Portage Celebrate Completion of Sewer Rehabilitation Project

    Leaders from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chicago District, the City of Portage, and U.S. Rep. Frank J. Mrvan (IN-01) gathered July 29 to celebrate the completion of the Portage Interceptor Rehabilitation Project – Phase II.
