  • More Critical Repairs Started on Vermilion Harbor Piers

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District and its contractor, Chicago-based Architectural Consulting Group, Ltd., have started repairs on another section of the Vermilion Harbor West Pier. Vermilion Harbor’s piers ensure the harbor remains economically viable and able to provide safe access for recreation and refuge to boaters on the Great Lakes.
  • Construction Resumes on Critical Repairs for Oswego Breakwater

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District and its contractor, Michigan-based Great Lakes Dock & Materials LLC have resumed construction of repairs to the Oswego West Arrowhead Breakwater. Repairs to the West Arrowhead Breakwater ensure Oswego Harbor’s viability and contributions to the local and national economy and protect the future of some of the area’s best waterfront historical, educational, and recreation opportunities.
  • Critical Repairs on the Way for Dunkirk Breakwater

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District awarded a $7.56 million contract to Michigan-based Great Lakes Dock & Materials, LLC on June 25, 2024 for repairs to Dunkirk Harbor’s breakwater. Repairs to the breakwater maintain Dunkirk Harbor’s viability and contributions to the local economy, protect some of the area’s best waterfront recreation, and ensure a harbor of refuge for vessels on the Great Lakes.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District Welcomes New Commander

    Lt. Col. Robert Burnham, a Beaufort, South Carolina native and a veteran of the Afghanistan war, assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District on July 18. Burnham will lead the district's more than 300 team members, responsible for projects in 16 commercial and 19 recreational Great Lakes harbors, leadership of the Radiological Waste Design Center for USACE's Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, operation of the Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area and the historic Black Rock Lock, as well as many other roles across a more than 38,000 square mile area of responsibility.
  • Critical Repairs on the Way for Great Sodus Bay Breakwater

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District awarded a $6.7 million contract to Michigan-based Great Lakes Dock & Materials LLC on July 16 for critical repairs to the Great Sodus Bay East Breakwater. The 100% federally funded project marks the largest investment ever in Great Sodus Bay by the Corps of Engineers, ensuring the harbor’s viability and contributions to the local and national economy and protection of some of the area’s best waterfront opportunities.
  • Contract Awarded for Lasting Repairs to Cleveland West Pier

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District awarded a $6.9 million contract to Michigan-based Great Lakes Dock & Materials LLC on June 3 for the repair of the Cleveland West Pier. Repairs to the West Pier ensure Cleveland Harbor’s viability and contributions to the local and national transportation sector and protect the future of some of the area’s best waterfront recreation opportunities.
  • Safe Boating Urged as Outer Harbor Wetland Construction Begins

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District is urging boaters to use caution as construction of the submerged stone wall at the entrance to Shipping Slip 3 on the Outer Harbor begins. Buoys that marked the submerged wall have been removed, allowing Ryba Marine Construction Co. to finish placement of additional bedding stone, 4.8 feet of underlayer stone, and 7.2 feet of armor stone.
  • Army Corps of Engineers waives day use fees at recreation areas in observance of Army Corps of Engineers Birthday and Juneteenth Celebration

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,850 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in observance of the USACE birthday, June 16, and Juneteenth National Independence Day, June 19.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District is seeking public comment to evaluate the permit application submitted by Micron New York Semiconductor Manufacturing LLC (Micron), with the comment period closing July 1.
