Draft Environmental Assessment, Section 571 Pond Creek Water Main Extension Project, Wood County, West Virginia
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District (Corps) has conducted an environmental analysis in accordance w ith the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, as amended. The draft Environmental Assessment (EA) dated June 2024 for the Section 571 Pond Creek Water Main Extension Project addresses the existing water system which causes unsanitary and unsafe conditions to individuals along Pond Creek Road and Jerrys Run Road in Wood County, West Virginia. The need for the water main extension is to provide residents with reliable and safe water supply infrastructure.

Draft Environmental Assessment, Section 571 Northern Jackson County Water Distribution System Upgrade Project, Jackson County, West Virginia
The Northern Jackson County Public Service District is proposing to design and construct a water distribution system upgrade project in Jackson County, West Virginia. The existing water distribution system has exceeded its lifespan of adequate production capability and contains aging and deteriorating components. The proposed infrastructure would address the unsanitary and unsafe conditions associated with the existing water distribution system.

Section 571 Apple Grove WWTP project
The Mason County Public Service District is proposing to design and construct a wastewater treatment plant project for the newly announced Nucor Manufacturing Facility and eventually the communities of Apple Grove, Mercers Bottom, Ashton, and surrounding areas of Mason County, West Virginia. All residences and businesses within the project area currently rely on private septic systems or home aeration units, several of which are failing. The proposed infrastructure would address the unsanitary and unsafe conditions associated with the existing sanitary sewer system.

Consolidation of Studies

The Water Resources Development Act establishes a single-phase cost-shared study process that for each feasibility study undertaken, the district engineer will develop a detailed study schedule and notify the non-federal interests.
