  • Fisherman's Access Trail on Shippingport Island is temporarily closed due to thefts, misuse

    The Fisherman’s Access Trail located along the western bank of Shippingport Island within the Falls of the Ohio National Wildlife Conservation Area in Louisville, Kentucky, is temporarily closed from public access effective immediately due to ongoing improper uses of the site.
  • Smith Springs Recreation Area closes for winter season

    ANTIOCH, Tenn. (Oct. 29, 2025) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is closing Smith Springs Recreation Area at J. Percy Priest Lake starting Monday Nov. 3, 2025, through March 2, 2026, for maintenance during the winter season.
  • Soo Locks Visitor Center announces seasonal closure

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District will close the Soo Locks Visitor Center in Canal Park for the season at 7 p.m. Oct. 31.
  • USACE to host Shallow Land Disposal Area public information session

    Pittsburgh and Buffalo districts’ staff will update the public on the project’s status, upcoming site activities, and other topics of public interest for the Shallow Land Disposal Area (SLDA) site. Additionally, remediation operations are expected to begin at the site later this year. The session will highlight details about upcoming site remediation activities and address topics of public interest including safety, environmental testing, and emergency response.
  • Temporary navigation restrictions at McAlpine Locks and Dam for LG&E power line replacement

    This week, a contractor for Louisville Gas and Electric (LG&E) will perform maintenance on power lines that cross over the Portland Canal, just upstream of McAlpine Locks and Dam at Ohio River Mile 605 in Louisville, Kentucky.
  • Corps of Engineers to conduct emergency exercise at Shallow Land Disposal Area

    USACE is conducting a full-scale emergency exercise at the Shallow Land Disposal Area (SLDA) site. During the exercise, the public will likely see increased security measures, emergency vehicles, and personnel, and probably hear emergency vehicle sirens. The increased activity is part of the drill and not an actual emergency.
  • USACE Chicago District postpones Morgan Shoal NEPA public review meeting due to lapse in federal appropriations

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District is postponing the planned National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) public meeting for the shoreline project, Morgan Shoal Revetment Reconstruction (45th – 51st Street), due to the current lapse in federal funding and resulting government shutdown. The meeting, which had been scheduled for Thursday October 9th, at 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Kennicott Park Fieldhouse, 4434 S Lake Park Ave, Chicago, IL 60653, will be rescheduled. The Chicago District remains committed to holding a public meeting and engaging with the community as soon as normal operations resume.
  • USACE continues mission-essential operations during lapse in appropriations

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is announcing that all essential services will continue during the lapse in Fiscal Year 2026 funding and all navigation facility operations will follow their existing schedules.
