Huntington District, West Virginia -- HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Huntington District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces that Dewey Lake will be drawn down an additional 2 ft. under normal winter pool to 643ft. for hydrilla treatment in areas affected by this invasive species.
Terry’s, Stratton, and the Marina ramps will not be accessible during this time. Goble will still be accessible. Draw down will begin this week. We will return to winter pool around mid-March. The status of the draw down and availability of boat ramps will be updated on the Dewey Lake Facebook page.
By dropping the lake an additional 2 feet we will be exposing the plant tubers in the exposed soil to forecasted freezing temperatures. This will kill the hydrilla. Hydrilla is an invasive aquatic plant that was identified in Dewey Lake in 2004, This past season (2023) a dense population was observed around the lake by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. Hydrilla out competes native plant species and affects navigation on the lake.
