Boardman River trails, river access restrictions

Detroit District
Published Aug. 31, 2018

DETROIT – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, announces Boardman River trails and river access restrictions in Traverse City, Michigan during the Boardman River Dams Ecosystem Restoration Project construction.

Specific restrictions are due to hazardous conditions and include the Boardman Pond Trail, Beaver Pond Trail, Sabin Pond Trail and Boardman River closure from Lone Pine Trailhead to Laura Drive. While the majority on Sabin Pond Trail remains open, hikers are asked to remain on the designated path and keep clear of construction areas and exposed bottomlands.

These restrictions are active now and will continue through construction completion, which is scheduled for summer 2019. For a trail closure map, visit The Grand Traverse Conservation District has trail maps at: http://natureiscalling.org/explore/parklands/.

The purpose of this ecosystem restoration project is to increase upstream migration of the fishery and other aquatic organisms, and to reduce thermal impacts of the existing dam on the Boardman River.

For additional information please contact U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District employee Chris Schropp, civil engineer, (616) 842-5510 x25526.
