Louisville, KY -- At approximately 3:00 p.m. today, October 21, 2021, navigation traffic was halted to facilitate a hydraulic cylinder repair on the main (1,200 foot) lock chamber at Markland Locks and Dam (Ohio River Mile 531.5). The closure will last until approximately 12:00 p.m. (EDT) on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Upon completion of the hydraulic cylinder repairs, traffic will resume in the main chamber.
During this time the auxiliary (600 foot) chamber will remain closed due to the ongoing major maintenance project.
Heavy Capacity Fleet resources have been diverted to repairing the main chamber to expedite repairs.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District will continue to coordinate closely with the U.S. Coast Guard and the towing industry during this temporary closure.
