The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District is working in partnership with local, state and federal agencies in response to the severe storms and tornadoes, which impacted western Kentucky over the weekend.

The Louisville District Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated Dec. 11 to support the disaster response.

“We are fully activated, working in coordination with the state to provide technical assistance and deploy teams to necessary areas as quickly as possible,” said Robert Burick, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District emergency operations manager.

The Louisville District has mobilized three debris subject matter experts to the affected region and deployed an infrastructure subject matter expert to perform assessments in Mayfield, Kentucky. An additional 12 employees are prepared to begin debris assessments Dec. 14, throughout the affected counties.

USACE has received one mission assignment for Temporary Power, which is being supported by the Pittsburgh District and the 249th Engineer Battalion Prime Power Team. “Through hard work and coordination, the Louisville District was able to facilitate deployment of the Temporary Power Planning and Response Team (PRT) within 24 hours of the event,” said Burick. More than 100 people are now on the ground at the Generator Staging Base in Greenville, Kentucky, and 61 generators are ready for installation at the request of the State and FEMA.

District leadership has embedded in the Kentucky Emergency Management State Emergency Operations Center and USACE will continue to work with our local, state and federal partners to provide supplies and technical assistance, as requested.
