Senecaville Lake is within the Lower Tuscarawas section of the Muskingum Area. It was authorized by Section 4 of the Flood Control Act (FCA) of 1938, as amended by Section 4 of the FCA of 1939. Primary project purposes are flood damage reduction, recreation, and fish and wildlife. The dam was completed in September 1936 and serves a drainage area of 118 square miles. Land includes 138 fee acres and 11,554 easement acres. There Corps has two outgranted day-use recreation areas. The dam is a rolled earth-fill with impervious core, 45 ft tall, 2,350 ft. long, 35 ft. wide at the top and 475 ft. wide at the base. The spillway is an uncontrolled concrete overflow in the central portion of the dam. The intake structure is located in the center of the spillway section and contains two 3.5 x 7 ft. gated sluices. The intake structure is flanked by two 16.5 ft. overflow sections, each controlled by an 11.5 x 16.5 ft. tainter gate. The closed tainter gates form a portion of the spillway crest length. Discharge is into a stilling basin.
