Beach City Lake is within the Upper Tuscarawas section of the Muskingum Area. It was authorized by Section 4 of the Flood Control Act (FCA) of 1938, as amended by Section 4 of the FCA of 1939. Primary project purposes are flood damage reduction, recreation, and fish and wildlife. Land includes 299 fee acres and 7,818 flowage easement acres. Corps of Engineers recreational facilities include a day use area. The dam was completed September 1936 and serves a drainage area of 300 square miles. The dam is a rolled earth-fill with impervious core, 64 ft. tall, 5,600 long, 35 ft. wide at the top and 370 ft. wide at the base. The spillway is an uncontrolled saddle at the right abutment of the dam. The intake structure contains six 7 x 15 ft. gated sluices discharging through twin 18 ft. x 13.5 ft. semi-circular concrete conduits through right abutment into a stilling basin. A control weir, with two stop log gates, maintains minimum pool. Other structures include three rolled earth-fill levees and a pump station to protect Brewster, Ohio and one small industrial levee to protect Industrial Silica Co. at Dundee. Brewster Levee 1 is located one-half mile south of Brewster, OH and is 25 ft. tall, 550 ft. long, 8 ft. wide at the top and 103 ft. wide at the base. Brewster Levee 2 is located just southeast of Brewster and is 20 ft. tall; 1,015 ft. long, 14 ft. wide at the top and 110 ft. wide at the base. Brewster Levee 3 is located just east of Brewster and is 6 ft. tall; 440 ft. long, 8 ft. wide at the top and 40 ft. wide at the base.
