Program Description

Section 340 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1992 (Public Law 102-580) provides a program of Federal assistance through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) that allows for design and/or construction assistance to non-Federal entities for water-related environmental infrastructure and resource protection and development projects, including projects for wastewater treatment and related facilities, water supply, storage, treatment and distribution facilities, environmental restoration, and surface water resources protection and development.  The Section 340 Environmental Infrastructure Program covers the following southern West Virginia counties: Boone, Braxton, Cabell, Calhoun, Clay, Fayette, Gilmer, Greenbrier, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Monroe, Nicholas, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Putnam, Raleigh, Roane, Summers, Wayne, Webster, Wirt and Wyoming.

Authority
Section 340 of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 1992 provides authorizing language for the Southern WV Environmental Infrastructure Program.  Assistance under this section may be in the form of design and construction assistance to non-Federal entities for water-related environmental infrastructure and resource protection and development projects in Southern West Virginia.  These could include projects such as wastewater treatment and related facilities, water supply, storage, treatment and distribution facilities, environmental restoration, and surface water resources protection and development.  The section also sets the amount of appropriations for the program at $120M.
