Program Description

Section 571 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1999 (Public Law 106-53) provides a program of Federal assistance through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) that allows  for design and/or construction assistance to non-Federal entities for water-related environmental infrastructure and resource protection and development projects, including projects for wastewater treatment and related facilities, water supply, and surface water resource protection and development. The Section 571 Environmental Infrastructure Program covers the following central West Virginia counties: Barbour, Berkeley, Brooke, Doddridge, Grant, Hampshire, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jefferson, Lewis, Marion, Marshall, Mineral, Morgan, Monongalia, Ohio, Pleasants, Preston, Randolph, Ritchie, Taylor, Tucker, Tyler, Upshur, Wetzell and Wood

Authority
Section 571 of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 1999 provides authorizing language for the Central WV Environmental Infrastructure Program.  Assistance under this section may be in the form of design and construction assistance to non-Federal entities for water-related environmental infrastructure and resource protection and development projects in Central West Virginia, including projects for wastewater treatment and related facilities, water supply and related facilities, and surface water resource protection and development.  The section also sets the amount of appropriations for the program at $100M.
