Moody Recreation Area temporarily closing for improvements

CELINA, Tenn. (Aug. 21, 2024) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that Moody Recreation Area, to include its boat ramp on the Obey River below Dale Hollow Dam, is temporarily closing Sept. 9, 2024, for improvements.

USACE provides Chickamauga Lock replacement update to Congressional and Senate delegation

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District hosted U.S. Representative Chuck Fleischmann (TN-3), Chairman of the House Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Subcommittee; U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn; and delegations from other senate and congressional staff at the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project on Aug. 20, 2024, to receive an update on project delivery and the importance of the lock replacement to the region’s economy.

Funding Secured to Design Defense Against Erosion at Old Fort Niagara

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District is planning critical defenses against erosion for Old Fort Niagara, part of a project to stabilize a portion of the Lake Ontario shoreline. With funding recently transferred from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation – the project’s non-federal sponsor – the district is starting a $760,000 design phase.

Public meetings set for Invasive Carp Pilot Program

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 13, 2024) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District invites the public to participate in one of several public meetings that are planned to discuss the Invasive Carp Management Plan, draft Programmatic Environmental Assessment, and unsigned Finding of No Significant Impact, which are under review to manage and prevent the spread of invasive carp populations in the Tennessee and Cumberland River basins and Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway.

More Critical Repairs Started on Vermilion Harbor Piers

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District and its contractor, Chicago-based Architectural Consulting Group, Ltd., have started repairs on another section of the Vermilion Harbor West Pier. Vermilion Harbor’s piers ensure the harbor remains economically viable and able to provide safe access for recreation and refuge to boaters on the Great Lakes.

Construction Resumes on Critical Repairs for Oswego Breakwater

Critical Repairs on the Way for Dunkirk Breakwater

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District awarded a $7.56 million contract to Michigan-based Great Lakes Dock & Materials, LLC on June 25, 2024 for repairs to Dunkirk Harbor’s breakwater. Repairs to the breakwater maintain Dunkirk Harbor’s viability and contributions to the local economy, protect some of the area’s best waterfront recreation, and ensure a harbor of refuge for vessels on the Great Lakes.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District Welcomes New Commander

Lt. Col. Robert Burnham, a Beaufort, South Carolina native and a veteran of the Afghanistan war, assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District on July 18. Burnham will lead the district's more than 300 team members, responsible for projects in 16 commercial and 19 recreational Great Lakes harbors, leadership of the Radiological Waste Design Center for USACE's Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, operation of the Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area and the historic Black Rock Lock, as well as many other roles across a more than 38,000 square mile area of responsibility.

Critical Repairs on the Way for Great Sodus Bay Breakwater

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District awarded a $6.7 million contract to Michigan-based Great Lakes Dock & Materials LLC on July 16 for critical repairs to the Great Sodus Bay East Breakwater. The 100% federally funded project marks the largest investment ever in Great Sodus Bay by the Corps of Engineers, ensuring the harbor’s viability and contributions to the local and national economy and protection of some of the area’s best waterfront opportunities.
