Project partnership agreement signed to remove Peery’s Mill Dam

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (Dec. 18, 2025) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recently signed a project partnership agreement with the State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to remove the Peery’s Mill Dam from the Little River in Walland, Tennessee.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers actively managing Cumberland Basin reservoirs for power generation

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is lowering water levels at several lakes across the Cumberland River Basin, including Lake Cumberland, Dale Hollow, and Center Hill, more than is typical for this time of year. This action is necessary to increase hydropower generation to meet regional energy demands during an extreme cold forecast. While lowering lake levels is a normal part of winter operations, the public should expect more significant and rapid fluctuations over the next week. USACE is urging marina operators, boaters, and dock owners to monitor the changing conditions and secure their property.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awards final contracts for Cleveland flood project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has made significant strides in reducing flood risks in Cleveland, Tenn., with recent contract awards for the Williams Street Detention Structure and Blount Avenue Channel Modification. These projects, part of a comprehensive flood risk management effort, aim to protect homes and businesses in the South Mouse Creek and Fillauer Branch watersheds. Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the initiative will reduce flood damage and enhance community resilience through both structural and nonstructural measures.

Cordell Hull Dam Right Bank Tailwater Recreation Area closing for repairs in October

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close part of the Right Bank Tailwater Recreation Area below Cordell Hull Dam in mid-October 2025 for a rock bluff stabilization project, with construction expected to finish by January 2027. The closure affects the restroom near the dam, a parking area, and land-based fishing access, while other nearby amenities like the walking track, boat ramp, and playground will remain open. Visitors with shelter reservations are advised to contact the Resource Manager’s Office for assistance.

Volunteers needed at Nashville District lakes for National Public Lands Day events

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is recruiting volunteers for the 32nd Annual National Public Lands Day on Sept. 27, 2025, to help restore public lands along the Cumberland River and its tributaries. Volunteers will engage in various activities such as tree planting, cleanup, trail building, and habitat restoration at several lakes including Center Hill, Cheatham, and Dale Hollow. This nationwide event, focused on "Our Home Outdoors," is the largest volunteer-led restoration effort for public parks, forests, and recreational sites.

U.S. 127 road to close briefly at Wolf Creek Dam Sept. 15 and 18

U.S. Highway 127 across Wolf Creek Dam will be closed on Sept. 15 and 18, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for crane operations related to spillway gate rehabilitation. Closures will be brief, with emergency and school traffic accommodated, and message boards will provide updates.
