U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District welcomes Moran as new commander

Col. John Moran assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District in a change of command ceremony held at the district’s new headquarters at 220 W. Main Street in Louisville, Kentucky, July 30, 2026. As commander of the Louisville District, Col. Moran will provide strategic direction and command and control for the district’s more than $1 billion annual workload including civil, military, environmental and Interagency and International Services programs.

Groundbreaking ceremony for Rough River Dam Safety Modification project marks beginning of work on Phase 2

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District joined local, state and federal officials July 21 to break ground on Phase 2 of the Rough River Dam Safety Modification project—a critical mega-project with an estimated total project cost of up to $891 million that will repair the high-risk dam and provide permanent flood risk reduction for downstream communities.

USACE seeks proposals for Challenge Cost-Sharing Cooperative Management Agreement for Barren River Lake’s Tailwater Campground Recreation Area

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District is seeking proposals from Non-Federal Public Entities to enter a Challenge Cost-Sharing Cooperative Management Agreement (CCSCMA) for the purpose of co-managing recreational sites with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The recreational site under consideration is located at Barren River Lake and includes the Tailwater Campground in Allen County, Kentucky.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks public comments on potential future changes to the nationwide permits

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced on March 16 that it is seeking input from all interested parties on ways to increase the efficiency of the nationwide permit program. Nationwide permits authorize activities that are similar in nature and cause no more than minimal adverse environmental impacts to jurisdictional aquatic resources separately or on a cumulative basis. Activities range from work associated with aids to navigation and utility lines to residential developments and maintenance activities.
