Marker highlights historical relevance of navigation lock
This is the coffer dam at the Lock 2 “Becks Ripple” location on the Cumberland River in Nashville, Tennessee, Aug. 31, 1891. Excavation at the site would reveal that suitable bedrock foundation at “Becks Ripple” did not exist at a consistent depth, which led to the selection of a new site location 1.5 miles downstream.
