  • Largest Great Lakes Dredging Operation Starting Fall 2025

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District and its contractor Michigan-based Ryba Marine Construction Company will begin the largest dredging operation on the Great Lakes this fall. This year’s dredging of Toledo Harbor’s federal navigation channel – which requires the largest quantity of material to be dredged from any Great Lakes harbor – is part of a two-year contract totaling $8.6 million, and ensures accessible depths for large vessels, the continued flow of commodities across the Great Lakes, and the economic viability of United States waterways.
  • Corps of Engineers begins work at Grand Haven Government Basin

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District construction to replace timber fenders on the East and West Government Basin Piers in Grand Haven begins May 19, 2025.   The wooden fenders, used as bumpers to protect vessels from damage against concrete and steel navigation structures, will be hoisted into place using Corps of Engineers floating platforms and welding them into place. The work is scheduled to be completed in mid-July. 
  • Chicago District Engineers Selected for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Forward Engineer Support Team

    Six civilian professionals from across the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have been selected to deploy with active duty leadership as part of the 62nd Forward Engineer Support Team – Advanced (FEST-A) mission. Among those chosen are Michael Haefeli and Alan Jaski from the USACE Chicago District.
  • Corps of Engineers releases Line 5 Tunnel Project tentative timeline

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District released an updated Line 5 Tunnel Project permit review and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) timeline May 2, 2025. The Draft EIS is expected to be published in the Federal Register on May 30, 2025. The Detroit District will conduct a 30-day public comment period (May 30 to June 30, 2025) following the release of the Draft EIS. “Public participation is an important part of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process to ensure a thorough environmental analysis, and an effective, consistent and well-informed decision,” Detroit District Commander Lt. Col. Wallace Bandeff said.
