  • Corps of Engineers Working on Critical Repairs to Buffalo Breakwater

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is actively repairing the Buffalo South Breakwater, a vital structure for navigation in Buffalo Harbor that was severely damaged by winter weather in 2022 and 2023. The breakwater is essential to maintaining safe harbor access for commercial ships bringing more than $43 million in business revenue to the region and protecting recreational sites from Great Lakes waves and weather.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awards final contracts for Cleveland flood project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has made significant strides in reducing flood risks in Cleveland, Tenn., with recent contract awards for the Williams Street Detention Structure and Blount Avenue Channel Modification. These projects, part of a comprehensive flood risk management effort, aim to protect homes and businesses in the South Mouse Creek and Fillauer Branch watersheds. Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the initiative will reduce flood damage and enhance community resilience through both structural and nonstructural measures.
  • Corps of Engineers Completes Repairs to Deteriorated Cleveland West Pier

    The Cleveland West Pier – a critical navigation structure and popular community recreation spot – has been fully repaired by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District. Repairs to the pier ensure ships carrying millions of tons of cargo and recreational boaters alike can safely travel between the Great Lakes and the Cuyahoga River and supports more than $550 million in the regional and national transportation sector.
  • Detroit District accepting entries for annual photo contest

    The Detroit District invites the public to enter its 10th annual photo contest highlighting U.S. Army Corps of Engineers sites across the Great Lakes. The top 12 photographs highlighting Detroit District projects on the Great Lakes, such as the Soo Locks, Duluth Ship Canal, piers, breakwaters or federal harbors and channels will earn a spot in the 2026 downloadable calendar. The entry deadline is 11:59 p.m. November 23, with winners determined by public voting on Facebook. The Soo Locks Visitors Center Association will award the top three photographers a plaque featuring their winning photo.
