  • USACE Hosting Niagara Falls Storage Site Public Information Session

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District will host a public information session on Oct. 17, 2023 to provide project updates for the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, Niagara Falls Storage Site project, located in Lewiston, N.Y. This event will provide the public with an opportunity to engage with the Corps of Engineers' Integrated Technical Office staff to gain a deeper understanding of the status of ongoing and future activities at the site. This meeting will be recorded, and a video will be posted to the project information website for anyone who cannot attend.
  • NR 23-38: Cordell Hull Lake taking applications for youth deer management hunt

  • Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center celebrates 50 years

    DULUTH, Minn. – The Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center in Duluth, Minnesota celebrates 50 years with an event Thursday, September 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center and the Lake Superior Marine Museum Association will host a celebration with refreshments, a look back at the history of the Visitor Center including photos, old park ranger uniforms and some rarely-before-seen artifacts from the collection.

  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees and invites volunteers to participate in National Public Lands Day, Sept. 23

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that it will waive day-use fees typically charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day (NPLD) on Saturday, Sept. 23.
  • USACE Buffalo District Awards $17.6 Million Contract for Engineered Construction Cap at FUSRAP Seaway Site

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District has awarded a $17.6 million contract to Mark Cerrone, Inc. to install approximately 23-acres of engineered non-permeable caps at the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, Seaway Site, Tonawanda, N.Y. Construction of the engineered cap, designed to limit exposure at the site, will occur within areas A, B, and C, and is scheduled to begin no later than spring 2024.
  • Army Corps to keep Crooked River Lock in Alanson closed to complete repairs

    The Crooked River Lock in Alanson, Michigan will remain closed for the remainder of the season to perform critical maintenance this fall. This decision was made Thursday, September 14, 2023 between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District (USACE) and Emmet County leadership for the safety of the public. Replacement parts for a faulty safety relay allowing the lock to reliably open and close remain on backorder. The Detroit District, in conjunction with Emmet County, which operates the lock under an agreement with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, decided Thursday to close the lock early for the season for safety of the public, and to conduct a thorough inspection and development of a robust repair plan to prevent unscheduled 2024 closures.
  • Dredging to Begin at Sandusky Harbor: Notice to All Boaters

    Dredging of the federal navigation channel in Sandusky Harbor by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District and its contractor, Michigan-based The King Co., Inc., will begin Sunday, Sept. 17. Recreational boaters who routinely use the channel should take caution and be aware of changes within the channel marked by buoys. Boaters are asked to go slow and stay away from marine equipment, stay clear of the contractor’s temporary pipeline, and stay out of the perimeter of the sediment placement area.
