Allegheny, Monongahela locks to open on some weekends, holidays

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is notifying recreational boaters that the upper Allegheny River and the upper Monongahela River locks will be open during specific dates and times this summer.

USACE completes substantial repair of confined disposal facility in Lorain Harbor

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Buffalo District and its contractor, Akron-based SAF, Inc., completed substantial repair of a confined disposal facility in the eastern end of Lorain Harbor on October 13, 2021. Construction on the approximately $300,000 project began in August and returned the CDF’s earthen berm to its initial design height and added seed cover for added stability and prevention of future erosion. These repairs will maintain the facility’s remaining capacity of nearly 300,000 CY for the placement of dredged sediment, allowing it to be used for the next two to three years of maintenance dredging in the harbor in support of the local industries and economy.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and City of Independence to sign agreement for flood damage reduction project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Buffalo District, City of Independence Mayor Gregory P. Kurtz, and the Independence Continuing Authorities Program 205 project team will sign a Project Partnership Agreement (PPA) for a flood damage reduction project on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at 7900 Old Rockside Rd, Independence, OH 44131 (see map on following page). The $8 million project will reduce the risk of damage from continual overbank flooding along the Cuyahoga River and protect vulnerable residential and business properties in the City of Independence.
