    Nashville District invests in our planet

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 22, 2022) – Earth Day provides an opportunity for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District to reflect on its efforts to preserve natural resources and the environment, for future generations to enjoy. It also provides an opportunity to reflect on the initiatives to create sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure across the district.
  • Chicago Harbor Lock and Dam welcomes back Ellie

    The Chicago District was proud to welcome back Ellie to her fifth season of protecting the Chicago Harbor Lock and Dam. Ellie is an 8 year old Border Collie, known as the Bird Disbursal Specialist, she divides her time between USACE’s Chicago Harbor Lock and Dam in Chicago, Illinois and Robert S. Kerr Lock and Dam 15 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. She stays at the property 24 hours a day, and is a diligent, good-natured companion to the staff. Ask any of her coworkers and they will tell you that this arrangement has been the very best - Five seasons and still going strong.
  • Nashville District completes Gate City Floodplain Management Services Study

    GATE CITY, Va. (April 19, 2022) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District recently completed a Floodplain Management Services Special Study of Little Moccasin Creek and Big Moccasin Creek, which evaluated the continual flooding of surrounding areas of Grogan Park and Old Nickelsville Highway in Gate City, Virginia.

    HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (April 14, 2022)— Students from Lipscomb University toured the Old Hickory Power Plant to complete an American Society of Civil Engineers' Infrastructure Report Card as part of their assignment for this semester.

  • Wilson Lock dewatering provides opportunity for inspection in dry conditions

    FLORENCE, Ala. (April 11, 2022) – Work crews recently drained more than 15 million gallons of water from Wilson Lock to provide maintenance personnel dry conditions to repair and rehabilitate the navigation lock to keep vessels moving up and down the Tennessee River.

    April is Sexual Assault Awareness month, and to kick off LRD’s month-long observation, teammates from the Great Lakes and Ohio River Division Headquarters in Cincinnati joined together on a brisk Spring morning to walk along the Ohio River.
  • Administrative professionals ESCAPE for training

    SMYRNA, Tenn. (April 5, 2022) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District provided an “ESCAPE” last week for employees called upon to answer phones, complete personnel actions, update training records, manage equipment accounts, purchase supplies, coordinate travel, input time and attendance, and other administrative tasks in their work centers.
  • New Army Aviation Support Facility unveiled at ribbon cutting

    With the help from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District, the Army Reserve Aviation Command’s newest Aviation Support Facility, also known as ASF, is officially open. MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new facility, April 2, 2022.
