    Partnering with the Planet: Nashville District Celebrates Earth Day

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 6, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District joins the rest of the nation in observing Earth Day, which is Saturday, April 22. While the Nashville District is committed to the principles of environmental stewardship in all efforts, across all projects, on all days, Earth Day enlists volunteers and organizations to be part of activities and partnerships that preserve and protect natural resources.

    Cheatham Lake biologist tuned into environmental projects

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 4, 2023) – A conservation biologist at Cheatham Lake is very much in tune with the significant environmental projects related to overseeing the conservation, preservation, restoration and use of natural and cultural resources.

    Pittsburgh District lakes and dams prepare for recreation season

    Park rangers across the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District have been preparing for the upcoming recreation season throughout the winter months. "Recreation season provides us a platform to get out and do what we signed up to do. Park rangers love being outdoors and working with the public. This is the time when we can allow our imaginations to run wild by coming up with different interpretive programs and events to connect with the visiting public," Alex Stevenson, northern area park ranger.
  • The Electronics Services Section built and coded the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system, which is currently being put in Nashville District hydropower plants and Detroit District hydropower plant. The control system will allow Corps engineers to operate hydropower plants from within the Nashville District. Electrical Engineer Skylar Holloway, Senior Electronics Mechanic Allen Hay, Hydropower Plant Senior Electronics Engineer Luke Ditto, and ESS Supervisor Richard Reiger show the Remote Terminal Unit simulator the team built and used to conduct testing before making and coding the system currently being installed at the Corps hydropower plants.

    Nashville District Engineers build and install new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system

    HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (April 3, 2023)— The Nashville District Corps of Engineers installed the first part of a new Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system at J. Percy Priest hydropower plant located in Nashville, Tennessee, and it is remotely operated from Old Hickory hydropower plant in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

    Former co-op student now leads District’s current largest project

    Louisville, Ky. – With hard work and perseverance, anything is possible, just ask Tara O’Leary. Little did she know that when she started working for the Louisville District in 1996 that she would one day be leading the team on one of its mega-projects. O’Leary, who is now the Deputy Chief of the Veterans Affairs Division and Louisville VAMC project manager, started her journey with the district as a co-op student while attending the University of Louisville to study engineering.

    Nashville District names Cox Employee of the Month for January 2023

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Mar.30, 2023) – Gregory Cox, work leader for Fort Loudoun and Melton Hill Locks, is named U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Employee of the Month for January 2023. Cox is recognized for his involvement in the creation of a custom platform with steps for deckhands and the design of a customized safety compliant lock ladder for potential use on all Tennessee River locks lower guard and guide walls.

    Communities spanning two counties dedicate Periwinkle Trail

    GRANVILLE, Tenn. (March 28, 2023) - The communities of Smith County, Jackson County and the “Friends of Cordell Hull Lake” dedicated Periwinkle Trail March 25, 2023, at the Indian Creek Archery Range trailhead. The newly constructed trail provides hikers a new path to experience the outdoors and creates a bond between the two counties.
