    Nashville District names Mark Veasey Employee of the Month for February 2023

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Apr. 26, 2023) – Mark Veasey, a civil engineer in the Water Resources section, Engineering and Construction Division, is named U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Employee of the Month for February 2023. Veasey earned recognition for serving as lead engineer on the Floodplain Management Services (FPMS) project to study the Trace Creek watershed, after the devastating August 2021 flood across Waverly, Tenn.

    Salvage Operations continue following a barge accident, which occurred March 28 at McAlpine Locks and Dam, in Louisville, Kentucky.A vessel towing 11 barges, which were owed by Ingram Barge Company, made contact with a stationary structure at the entrance to the Portland Canal near the McAlpine Lock and Dam, and as a result, 10 of the 11 barges

  • Pittsburgh District’s Water Quality team conducts first “spring pulse”

    Millions of gallons of water rushed out of the Kinzua Dam every minute for eight hours straight into the Allegheny River. The outflow caused the Allegheny River to rise by almost two feet. The water pushed out of the dam with massive force, resembling giant firehoses opened to full blast. This water release event was seven years in the making, a perfect storm of conditions that allowed water quality experts to replicate a spring pulse.
