Brian Trzaska started as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District’s Deputy District Engineer, and Deputy Program Manager for the Planning, Programs and Project Management Division (P3MD) on July 5, 2023.
In this position, Mr. Trzaska is responsible for budgeting, defending, and executing the Pittsburgh District programs providing expertise to the region and the nation. The scope of this effort includes the areas of navigation on the Allegheny River, Monongahela River, and upper Ohio River. It also provides flood risk management of 16 multi-purpose reservoirs and 80 local flood protection projects, environmental initiatives such as acid mine drainage, recreation, regulatory program, water supply, emergency management and hydropower. Mr. Trzaska serves as the authoritative source of information and advice to customers and district technical elements regarding District Civil Works projects in various stages of completion.
Prior to his arrival in the Pittsburgh District, Mr. Trzaska served as the Chief of Israel Construction for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District. In this position, Mr. Trzaska delivered a Foreign Military Financed construction program averaging $140 million annually. This program supported the Foreign Military Sales of F-35 Aircraft and provided the infrastructure and facilities to maintain and operate these airframes in Israel. This strategic partnership of building facilities and supporting regional security goals is a critical component of the mission in Israel.
Mr. Trzaska’s earlier USACE efforts include serving as the Chief of the Design Branch in the Alaska District (2018-2020) and Resident Engineer at the Omaha District Special Projects office (2016-2018). He also served as a Project Manager, Project Engineer, and Resident Engineer for Europe District from 2009 to 2016.
Mr. Trzaska holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University and a Master of Building Construction degree from Auburn University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Oklahoma, an Administrative Contracting Officer, and a member of the Army Acquisition Corps. He completed the Army Management Staff College Advanced Course in 2019.
Mr. Trzaska was born in Rome, New York, but was raised overseas and graduated from Ramstein American High School in Germany. He is married and has two boys.
