Charleston District - South Carolina Regulatory

The Charleston District Regulatory Division is responsible for administering federal permits for projects affecting South Carolina's waters, including wetlands. Operating under the Clean Water Act (Section 404) and the Rivers and Harbors Act (Section 10), we carefully evaluate proposed activities to minimize environmental impacts. We are committed to providing clear, timely permitting decisions while safeguarding these valuable resources and fostering public trust.

Permitting

There are two main types of permits, generally determined by the potential impact of your project on waters of the United States:

General Permits

  • Nationwide Permits (NWPs): Available across South Carolina. [Download Link]
  • Regional General Permits (RGPs): Specific to certain activities and locations. [Download Link]

Standard Permits

These permits include Letters of Permission (LOP) and Individual Permits (IPs), typically required for projects with larger or more complex impacts.

Office Locations and Permitting Resources
