    Lock operators work super safely near mega construction projects

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 8, 2023) – Operators at navigation locks could easily wear capes for the super work they do to ensure the safety of the public, not to mention employees that maintain these projects in the Cumberland and Tennessee River systems. At Kentucky Lock in Grand Rivers, Kentucky, and Chickamauga Lock in Chattanooga, Tennessee, ongoing mega construction projects to build larger new locks pose additional hazards for these vigilant protectors of people and resources.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 26, 2023) – A long overdue wastewater project is underway to provide a sanitary upgrade for the National Park Service Blue Heron Mine Area at the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area near Stearns, Kentucky.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 23, 2022) – Elizabeth R. Boeglin, civil engineer in the Engineering and Construction Division, is the Nashville District Employee of the Month for June 2022 for plan development and design work in support of the Wolf Creek Dissolved Oxygen Improvement Project.

    Lake Cumberland landmark officially named ‘Sid Bell Falls’

    WATAUGA, Ky. (Aug. 12, 2022) – A popular landmark on the shoreline of Lake Cumberland will forever be known as “Sid Bell Falls,” the namesake of its landowner when the Corps of Engineers purchased it during construction of Wolf Creek Dam in 1943.

    LAKE CUMBERLAND, Ky. (June 3, 2022) – A water quality team onboard a survey boat collected water samples last week from Wolf Creek Dam’s tailwater along with 12 more stations in the reservoir and major tributaries of Lake Cumberland.
