Phase 2 of Rough River Lake Dam project to be discussed at public meeting Feb. 24

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District will host an informational public meeting to provide an update on Phase 2 of the Rough River Dam Safety Modification project at Rough River Lake in Falls of Rough, Kentucky.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awards construction contract for Phase 2 of Rough River Dam Safety Modification project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, awarded a base contract for $320 million to Thalle-Bauer LLC., out of Hillsborough, North Carolina, Dec. 18, for Phase 2 of the Rough River Dam Safety Modification project. This is a base and option contract with the total contract value expected to be around $655M at contract completion. Phase 2 will include construction of a new outlet works and a full-depth cutoff wall across the dam, which will provide permanent risk reduction to communities downstream.

Buckhorn, Carr Creek dams continue operating as designed, providing flood damage reduction

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District continues to monitor the dams at Buckhorn Lake, Buckhorn, Kentucky, and Carr Creek Lake, Sassafras, Kentucky, following severe flooding which occurred in eastern Kentucky. The Buckhorn and Carr Creek Dams on the Middle Fork and the North Fork, respectively, of the Kentucky River are currently storing water and providing a reduction to the flooding occurring downstream. The dams are structurally sound and operating as intended.

Buckhorn and Carr Creek Dams are operating as designed, providing flood damage reduction

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buckhorn Reservoir, Buckhorn, Kentucky, is currently at 818.4 feet or 56 percent full as of Tuesday, March 2 at 12:00 p.m. While Carr Creek Reservoir, Sassafras, Kentucky, is currently at 1037.7 feet or 47 percent full. The Buckhorn and Carr Creek Dams on the Middle Fork and the North Fork, respectively, of the Kentucky River are currently storing water and providing a reduction to the flooding occurring downstream. The dams are structurally sound and operating as designed.
