  • Cordell Hull Dam tailwater area closes for bluff stabilization project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers begins the next phase of a bluff scaling project at Cordell Hull Dam on Jan. 12, 2026, closing the tailwater restroom and fishing walkway for approximately one year. This project involves removing loose rock and vegetation from the bluff to mitigate public safety hazards. While these specific areas are closed, other facilities at the Right Bank Tailwater Recreation Area, including the boat ramp, playground, and picnic shelter, remain open. Officials anticipate the closed areas will reopen in January 2027 or as soon as the work is complete.
