Chickamauga Lock approach wall receives second nose pier delivery

Progress continues on the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District successfully delivered a second massive nose pier, a key structure that guides vessels into the new lock chamber. The milestone keeps the project on track for contract completion in 2026 and full operation by 2028, with the new lock expected to boost capacity by 80% and improve commercial navigation efficiency on the Tennessee River.

Miter gate installation begins at Chickamauga Lock

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 18, 2025) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, in partnership with Shimmick Construction and Tennessee Valley Authority, recently began erecting massive miter gates for the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project. This milestone brings the project closer to its goal of enabling both recreational vessels and commercial barges to pass through the new lock chamber, a critical step in modernizing regional infrastructure.

USACE provides Chickamauga Lock replacement update to Congressional and Senate delegation

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District hosted U.S. Representative Chuck Fleischmann (TN-3), Chairman of the House Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Subcommittee; U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn; and delegations from other senate and congressional staff at the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project on Aug. 20, 2024, to receive an update on project delivery and the importance of the lock replacement to the region’s economy.
