Louisville -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District will be conducting maintenance activities this summer at Nolin River Lake in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, which could impact public access to the tailwater area and lake levels during the period of work. Visitors may see construction equipment being staged near the stilling basin as early as today, as these activities are scheduled to begin mid-July and last through August 2025.
During this time, contractors will be onsite to dewater the stilling basin and make concrete repairs. These activities are tentatively scheduled to begin July 17 and may last 4-5 weeks. During the stilling basin dewatering and repair work, Nolin dam will be limited to the minimum discharge of 50 cubic feet per second (cfs). This is the normal minimum discharge for Nolin River Lake in the summer and spring months when USACE is holding water.
To help minimize impacts on public recreation facilities, Nolin River Lake will be lowered by one foot to elevation 514 feet prior to the start of maintenance activities. While the lake will be held at minimum outflow for approximately 30 days during the project, lake levels may rise slightly during this period. The anticipated drawdown from elevation 515 feet to 514 feet is scheduled to begin July 14. Nolin River Lake will share the exact start date for the work and any associated pool changes on its Facebook page.
The times and duration of these activities are subject to change based on weather conditions and other factors. Any questions concerning the upcoming work can be directed to the Nolin River Lake Office at (270) 286-4511.
