The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in exempted or excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

  • Corps to begin construction for fish reefs on Monongahela River

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is notifying the public that onsite work to build stone fish reefs on the Monongahela River near the borough of Elizabeth will begin Oct. 30. The work is the first of five segments of a $2.4 million contract to install the fish reefs between Monongahela River miles 21.3 and 33.5. The work will begin at river mile 33.5 in Pool 3, between Victory Hills and the city of Monongahela, and continue downstream to river mile 21.3 in Pool 2 near Clairton, Pennsylvania.
  • Soo Locks Visitor Center closes for 2023 season

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closes the Soo Locks Visitor Center in Canal Park at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 for the 2023 season. Visitor Center hours for the remainder of Oct. are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. The park is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily for the month of October and will transition to winter hours (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) on Nov. 1. “The Visitor Center offered several new exhibits this summer to include a new interactive photo table, panels highlighting careers and workers at the Soo Locks and new rugs that show the existing and future Soo Locks facility,” Chief Park Ranger Michelle Briggs said. “We listen to our visitors and create exhibits that reflect their interests.”
  • NR 23-40: Corps reminds public of brief drawdown of Old Hickory Lake

    HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 25, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District reminds the public of a previously announced brief drawdown of Old Hickory Lake from late October through late November to assess the condition of the shoreline adjacent to Corps operated recreation areas, as well as perform maintenance in recreation areas.

  • NR 23-39: Cordell Hull Dam Right Bank Tailwater Recreation Area closing

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 11, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces the area below Cordell Hull Dam known as the Right Bank Tailwater Recreation Area is closing today for 90 days while construction work is underway to stabilize the rock bluff below the dam.
  • USACE Hosting Niagara Falls Storage Site Public Information Session

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District will host a public information session on Oct. 17, 2023 to provide project updates for the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, Niagara Falls Storage Site project, located in Lewiston, N.Y. This event will provide the public with an opportunity to engage with the Corps of Engineers' Integrated Technical Office staff to gain a deeper understanding of the status of ongoing and future activities at the site. This meeting will be recorded, and a video will be posted to the project information website for anyone who cannot attend.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 3, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that its time for hunters between the ages of 10 and 16 to apply for the 12th Annual Defeated Creek Youth Deer Management Hunt at Cordell Hull Lake.
  • Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center celebrates 50 years

    DULUTH, Minn. – The Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center in Duluth, Minnesota celebrates 50 years with an event Thursday, September 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center and the Lake Superior Marine Museum Association will host a celebration with refreshments, a look back at the history of the Visitor Center including photos, old park ranger uniforms and some rarely-before-seen artifacts from the collection.
