    DEFEATED, Tenn. (Aug 14, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces the beach restroom and picnic area within the Defeated Creek Recreation Area is closing Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, for removal and replacement of the existing restroom facility at the beach.

(Aug. 14, 2023) – The construction team at Barkley Dam Powerplant has reliable internet, thanks to Lance Foster, an information technology specialist in the Electronic Service Section. For his hard work and dedication, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District named Foster Employee of the Month for May 2023.
  • Lock operator returns home to Guam to support Typhoon Mawar recovery

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 11, 2023) – Old Hickory Lock Operator Anthony Certeza recently deployed to Guam in the aftermath of Typhoon Mawar, which devastated his native island in late May. He performed home inspections and literally assisted his own parents who lost power and needed his help.

  • USACE, Buffalo District Hosted Public Information Session about the Proposed Plan to Clean up Contaminated Sediment in the Lower Maumee River

    More than 20 people attended the Lower Maumee River Great Lakes Legacy Act public information session on the proposed sediment clean-up plan. The information session allowed for dialog to learn more about contaminated sediments located in the Lower Maumee River of the Maumee Area of Concern (AOC). Attendees asked questions and provided feedback about the project before a remedial design phase begins. The proposed feasibility study is posted online at: https://www.epa.gov/great-lakes-aocs/information-session-proposed-contaminated-sediment-clean-lower-maumee-river.     The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District welcomed industry, community and political leaders for the ceremony, digging shovels into a pile of dirt at the Montgomery Locks and Dam facility Aug. 11. The event marked the start of a construction project with benefits that will flow into the nation’s economy.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District will host a groundbreaking ceremony at Montgomery Locks and Dam to kick off construction to update the Ohio River’s oldest and smallest navigation facilities.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Completes Stabilization of Grand River West Bank in Painesville

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District and its contractor, Warrensville Heights-based Nerone and Sons, Inc., have completed repairs to stabilize the west bank of the Grand River. Repairs to the bank provide long-lasting protection from erosion which threatened public utilities, residents’ access to their historic homes along Bank Street, and the environmental health of the river below.
  • Senator Capito Staffers Visit Winfield Locks and Dam

    Adam Tomlinson, Murphie Barrett, Brett Jortland, and Libby Callaway from West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore-Capito’s office visited Winfield Locks and Dam and held discussions with Colonel Jayson Putnam and Mike Keathley to gain a better understanding on some of the issues that the district faces with regard to meeting mission requirements.
  • USACE Buffalo District Awards Contract for Balance of Plant & Groundwater Operable Units at Niagara Falls Storage Site

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District is pleased to announce that it has awarded a $40 million contract to Enviro-Fix Solutions LLC for Niagara Falls Storage Site (NFSS) Remedial and Site Services. The first task order was awarded on Aug. 4, 2023 for $11,984,341.90, which includes remediating contaminated media in accordance with the Record of Decision for the Balance of Plan (BOP) and Groundwater Operable Units (OU). This work is being carried out under the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP).
