  • Pittsburgh District researcher flexes her ‘mussels’ toward doctorate degree

    Kristi Dobra is a recipient of the Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation scholarship. The Department of Defense funds the SMART program to provide education and workforce development opportunities for students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering. or math. So far, the program has awarded more than 3,800 scholarships at more than 400 universities, from bachelor’s up to doctoral degrees.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District Headquarters Moves to Downtown Buffalo

    The headquarters of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District has re-located to the historic Hens & Kelly Building at 478 Main Street in the heart of the City Buffalo. Moving to the new headquarters at the corner of Main and Mohawk Streets – now known as the Mohawk Building – marks the district’s return to the city’s central business district after 75 years.

    HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Huntington District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has determined that conditions exist in the outlet works area at Atwood Lake, near Mineral City, Ohio that could result in the presence and possible release of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gases.

    Kids at Lower Twin Campground built their own bluebird boxes and they did an excellent job!!!! This was a learning opportunity that continues when they hang their boxes and get to watch birds move in. Thank you, Ranger Autumn Elliott and Volunteers Scottie and Michelle Owens for making this event great for these kids

    While conducting the annual maintenance bulkhead exercise, access across Sutton Dam to the Jerimiah Carpenter hiking trail was closed. This important exercise enables staff the opportunity to maintain a state of readiness and to test the various pieces of equipment and steps required to complete the process.

  • Pittsburgh District welcomes new commander

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District will transfer leadership during a Change of Command ceremony Friday, Aug. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the Senator John Heinz History Center, 1212 Smallman Street, Pittsburgh. Colonel Adam Czekanski, commander of the Pittsburgh District since July 2021, will transfer command to Colonel Nicholas Melin during a traditional military ceremony. Major General William Graham, Deputy Commanding General for Civil Works and Emergency Operations, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters, will preside over the ceremony.
