The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in exempted or excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.

    This week, a contractor for Louisville Gas and Electric (LG&E) will perform maintenance on power lines that cross over the Portland Canal, just upstream of McAlpine Locks and Dam at Ohio River Mile 605 in Louisville, Kentucky.
  • USACE Chicago District postpones Morgan Shoal NEPA public review meeting due to lapse in federal appropriations

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District is postponing the planned National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) public meeting for the shoreline project, Morgan Shoal Revetment Reconstruction (45th – 51st Street), due to the current lapse in federal funding and resulting government shutdown. The meeting, which had been scheduled for Thursday October 9th, at 5:30pm – 7:30pm at Kennicott Park Fieldhouse, 4434 S Lake Park Ave, Chicago, IL 60653, will be rescheduled. The Chicago District remains committed to holding a public meeting and engaging with the community as soon as normal operations resume.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Emergency Management team plays a critical role in disaster response and recovery, partnering with federal and state agencies to support affected communities. With a four-member team, they respond swiftly to crises, guiding operations through five key phases, from initial assessments to recovery missions. Over the past five years, they've been instrumental in nationwide efforts, including hurricane recovery, wildfire operations, and COVID-19 response. Their ongoing training and preparedness ensure they remain mission-ready to tackle emergencies at local, national, and global levels.
  • Cordell Hull Dam Right Bank Tailwater Recreation Area closing for repairs in October

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close part of the Right Bank Tailwater Recreation Area below Cordell Hull Dam in mid-October 2025 for a rock bluff stabilization project, with construction expected to finish by January 2027. The closure affects the restroom near the dam, a parking area, and land-based fishing access, while other nearby amenities like the walking track, boat ramp, and playground will remain open. Visitors with shelter reservations are advised to contact the Resource Manager’s Office for assistance.
  • Volunteers needed at Nashville District lakes for National Public Lands Day events

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is recruiting volunteers for the 32nd Annual National Public Lands Day on Sept. 27, 2025, to help restore public lands along the Cumberland River and its tributaries. Volunteers will engage in various activities such as tree planting, cleanup, trail building, and habitat restoration at several lakes including Center Hill, Cheatham, and Dale Hollow. This nationwide event, focused on "Our Home Outdoors," is the largest volunteer-led restoration effort for public parks, forests, and recreational sites.
  • Toledo Ohio Environmental Infrastructure Project Underway

    The City of Toledo along with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District hosted a signing ceremony for the Project Partnership Agreement that will deliver the Toledo Ohio Environmental Infrastructure 594 project. The purpose of the Toledo OEI 594 project is to create the interconnect between the planned 1-billion-gallon reservoir and a replacement raw water main lines that supply water from Lake Erie to the Collins Park Water Treatment Plant, a project that is estimated to cost about $13 million and be constructed in 2029.
