Construction for Van Voorhis on track for 2024 completion

The Van Voorhis Elementary School project site on Fort Knox, which is being managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District, is busy with crews operating heavy equipment to construct the new 104,000 square foot school that will replace the current 84,000 square foot facility. The $59.8 million construction contract, which began December 2021, had a sporadic start with inclement weather causing 23 days of delays.

Louisville District constructing one-of-a-kind multi-use helicopter training facility at Fort Campbell, Kentucky

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is building a $5 million Multi-use Helicopter Training facility to replace the current Special Helicopter Operations Complex training facility at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. This one-of-a-kind facility consists of a deck landing trainer designed to replicate a Destroyer Designated Guided DDG-103 class ship, nicknamed the “U.S.S. Truxton” and will include an attached six-story structure. The landing pad will incorporate the same lighting with a similar aircraft storage configuration as on board the DDG ship.

USACE military program director tours Louisville District projects

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Director of Military Programs Dr. Christine Altendorf conducted a two-day site visit of reserve and military construction projects at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio, Dec. 2-3, 2021. The first part of the visit began at the USACE Great Lakes and Ohio River Division headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, to discuss the benefits of a centrally managed military construction program and how the Energy Resilience and Conservation Investment Program will affect future USACE projects.

Louisville District meets 2021 goal of 280 Jacobsville properties remediated

Commercial and industrial manufacturing during the late 1800’s produced airborne dust, soot and smoke containing lead and arsenic, which contaminated about 4,000 residential properties in 12 neighborhoods in Evansville, Indiana. The Environmental Protection Agency began cleanup of the contaminated soil in 2007. In 2019, after remediating contaminated soil for about half of the properties, the EPA asked the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to remediate the remaining 2,000 properties.

New facility for next-generation radiation testing breaks ground at NSWC Crane

Leaders with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division and Krempp Construction participated in the ceremonial breaking of ground, Oct. 4, 2021, which marked the start of construction for a Strategic Radiation Testing Modernization Facility at NSWC Crane. New Joint Operations and Mission Planning Center construction at Scott AFB

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Air Force Civil Engineer Center, and 375th Civil Engineer Squadron have collaborated on a 171,727 square foot Joint Operations Mission Planning Center (JOMPC) to be built at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.
