    Mekong and Mississippi River Commissions strengthen Sister Rivers partnership with Nashville District visit

    Delegates from the Mekong River Commission participated in the 12th Sister Rivers Partnership Exchange with the Mississippi River Commission, hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pacific Ocean Division, in Tennessee, Kentucky, and New York from Dec. 8–12, 2024. The exchange, part of the broader Mekong-U.S. Partnership, focused on sustainable water resource management, climate adaptation, hydropower, and flood control. Delegates toured critical infrastructure such as the Kentucky Lock and Dam and Nashville’s floodplain preservation efforts, emphasizing global collaboration in addressing complex water management challenges and fostering resilient river ecosystems.

    Deputy Commanding General for Civil Works visits key Nashville District projects

    Maj. Gen. Jason Kelly, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers deputy commanding general for civil and emergency operations, visited the USACE Nashville District Nov. 13-15 to meet with leadership and employees, see district projects firsthand, and understand the challenges in the Cumberland and Tennessee River basins.

    Construction workers from contractor Thalle Construction complete the first monolith “top-out” on the Kentucky Lock Addition Project located in Grand Rivers, KY, Oct. 12, 2024. A monolith is a single structure of concrete that is in the shape of a column. There are a total of 50 monoliths that are to be constructed made from five-foot layers of concrete. Each five-foot layer is called a lift. Early Saturday morning, the final concrete lift was completed for a monolith located on the downstream side of the lock being constructed.

    Kentucky Lock Addition Project reaches first monolith top-out milestone

    On Oct. 12, 2024, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, in partnership with contractor Thalle Construction, marked a major milestone in the Kentucky Lock Addition Project with the first monolith top-out of the project’s Downstream Lock Monolith contract. This accomplishment reflects significant progress in constructing the new lock, which aims to enhance navigation efficiency on the Tennessee River.

    ORBIT stakeholders navigate Kentucky Lock Addition Project

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (May 19, 2023) – The Ohio River Basin Inspection Tour visited western Kentucky this week where stakeholders of the basin highlighted healthy and productive ecosystems, reliable flood risk management, and resilience of the Ohio River waterway system for inland navigation. They also navigated to the Kentucky Lock Addition Project for a construction update and better understanding of how the larger lock will help unlock congested commercial barge traffic.

    Maintenance Support Team, Lock engineers tackle tough jobs

    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (March 10, 2023) – Nashville District Maintenance Support Team and Kentucky Lock engineers onboard the Motor Vessel Iroquois repaired a mooring cell and replaced broken and outdated parts this week just upstream of Kentucky Lock on the Tennessee River in Grand Rivers, Kentucky.
