Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, U.S. Navy Research, Development, Testing and Engineering office and the construction contractor participated in the ceremonial breaking of ground for an $8.38 million Missile Technology Evaluation Facility, March 21, 2024 in Crane, Indiana.
The project includes site preparations and improvements, and construction of an approximately 10,200-square-foot building with utility connections.
“The new building will consolidate capabilities and improve collaboration and efficiency across our departments and across several divisions that support our nation’s strategic capability,” said J.R. Ross, Global Deterrence and Defense Department Director, NSWC Crane.
This project will provide NSWC with a facility to integrate and test advanced guidance, navigation and control technologies in a hardware-in-the-loop laboratory setting prior to field deployment.
On April 15, 2024, leadership from USACE and the NSWC, Crane Division, participated in another groundbreaking ceremony for the co-located new Strategic Systems Engineering Facility in Crane, Indiana.
The new strategic missions facility will provide new integrated systems engineering and test capability.
“This project exemplifies our unwavering commitment to provide the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division with the facilities needed to put the best technology in the hands of our Nation’s warfighters,” said Col. L. Reyn Mann, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District Commander. “The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers strives to safely construct projects on time, within budget, and I look forward to delivering this project for one of our most important partners.”
Both facilities are scheduled to be complete in 2025.
