  • Record of Decision Published for FUSRAP Guterl Site in Lockport

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District has published the Record of Decision for the Former Guterl Specialty Steel Corporation Site. The 70-acre site, located in Lockport, New York, is being addressed under the authority of the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program. The record of decision marks the completion of the final step in the federal decision-making process for addressing legacy contamination at the site and describes the final selected remedy to address contaminated buildings, soil and groundwater at the Guterl Site.
  • USACE Buffalo District Hosts Public Information Session for NFSS

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District will host a public information session to provide project updates for the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, Niagara Falls Storage Site (NFSS) project, Lewiston, NY. This event will provide an opportunity to engage with the Corps of Engineers' Integrated Technical Office staff to gain a deeper understanding of the status of ongoing and future activities at the site. This meeting will be recorded, and a video will be posted to the project information website for anyone who cannot attend.
  • Remediation Contract for Former Harshaw Chemical Company Awarded

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District awarded a $13.4 million contract on December 20 to Enviro-Fix Solutions, LLC for the remedial action of Operable Units (OU) 1 and 2 of the Former Harshaw Chemical Company Site, as part of the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP). The contract includes complete removal of contaminated FUSRAP-related soil and debris to be disposed at an approved off-site facility and leaves the site protective of human health and the environment.
  • USACE Hosting Niagara Falls Storage Site Public Information Session

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District will host a public information session on Oct. 17, 2023 to provide project updates for the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, Niagara Falls Storage Site project, located in Lewiston, N.Y.   • USACE Buffalo District Awards $17.6 Million Contract for Engineered Construction Cap at FUSRAP Seaway Site

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District has awarded a $17.6 million contract to Mark Cerrone, Inc. to install approximately 23-acres of engineered non-permeable caps at the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, Seaway Site, Tonawanda, N.Y. Construction of the engineered cap, designed to limit exposure at the site, will occur within areas A, B, and C, and is scheduled to begin no later than spring 2024.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District announces an increase in operational activity and a public information session for the Shallow Land Disposal Area in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, in preparation for site remediation.
  • USACE Buffalo District Awards Contract for Balance of Plant & Groundwater Operable Units at Niagara Falls Storage Site

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District is pleased to announce that it has awarded a $40 million contract to Enviro-Fix Solutions LLC for Niagara Falls Storage Site (NFSS) Remedial and Site Services. The first task order was awarded on Aug. 4, 2023 for $11,984,341.90, which includes remediating contaminated media in accordance with the Record of Decision for the Balance of Plan (BOP) and Groundwater Operable Units (OU). This work is being carried out under the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP).
  • REMEDIAL INVESTIGATION REPORT AND PROPOSED PLAN AVAILABLE PUBLIC MEETING TO BE CONDUCTED FOR THE SUPERIOR STEEL SITE

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Buffalo District is pleased to announce the release of the remedial investigation report and the proposed plan for the Superior Steel Site for public comment. The 37-acre industrial property is located at 500 Superior Street, in Scott Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, approximately five miles southwest of downtown Pittsburgh.
  • 10,000 truckloads safely moved from the Luckey FUSRAP site

    The 10,000th truck left the Luckey Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program Site, yesterday, loaded with material contaminated with beryllium, radium 226, thorium 230, uranium 234, uranium 238, and lead, making the site cleanup very near 60% complete.
  • Corps completes CERCLA five-year review at SLDA

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District, in partnership with the Buffalo District, completed a five-year review of the selected remedy for the Shallow Land Disposal Area (SLDA) Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) site per the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA).
