Sabin Dam emergency response drill

DETROIT – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, alerts the local community about a Sabin Dam emergency response drill taking place next week in Traverse City, Michigan.

An emergency response drill for the Boardman River Dams Ecosystem Restoration Project will be conducted at the Sabin Dam in order to test emergency action and response. Job Site Services, Inc., the Corps’ contractor for the project, will lead the drill with participation from the Corps and local first responders.

Time:             10:00 a.m.

Who:              Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its contractor, Job Site Services Inc., will work in conjunction with response teams from the Grand Traverse Metro Emergency Services, Grand Traverse Emergency Management and Grand Traverse 911. 

 As a requirement of the current dam removal contract, Job Site Services, Inc. is responsible for understanding and being prepared to follow and fully implement the "Emergency Action Plan for Sabin Dam," dated July 2018, in the event of an uncontrolled release through the dam. This event meets their requirement to perform at least one emergency response drill in cooperation with the County Emergency Management Coordinator.  

 The public should be aware that emergency vehicles will be dispatched to Logan’s Landing and the YMCA as part of the emergency drill. The drill is expected to last approximately 45 minutes and is have minimal impact on traffic in the area.
