Lower Fox River flow reduced beginning today

Detroit District
Published Oct. 25, 2018

DETROIT – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, announces the outflow from Lake Winnebago into Lower Fox River, near Neenah and Menasha, Wisconsin, will be reduced beginning Thursday, October 25, by closing two gates at the Menasha Dam. This action will lower the flow in the river to approximately 9,300 cubic feet per second and remain in place through the upcoming weekend.

At this month’s Lake Winnebago regulation meeting, concerns were heard about the persistent high flows in the Lower Fox River preventing the removal of boats ahead of the winter. This action should allow for the safe removal of any boat.

Conditions will be reevaluated, Monday, October 29, and a decision to either reopen the two gates or keep them closed will be made. The level of Lake Winnebago remains high for this time of year in response to the extremely wet weather experienced since the middle of August.

The Corps is closely monitoring water levels, flows and weather conditions as well as coordinating closely with local communities and users on the Fox River system.

Further updates will be provided as necessary. Water levels, flows and current condition summaries are updated regularly on the Detroit District website: http://www.lre.usace.army.mil/Missions/Great-Lakes-Information/Lake-Winnebago/
