    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 14. 2024) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that the Old Hickory Lake Visitor Center phone number has been restored from an extended outage after a tornado struck facilities and knocked down trees on the shoreline of the lake in December 2023.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Awards Contract to Repair Vermilion Harbor West Pier

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District awarded a $6.3 million contract to Chicago-based Architectural Consulting Group, Ltd. on Jan. 30 for repairs to the Vermilion Harbor West Pier. Repairs to the pier are scheduled to take place this summer, and ensure the ongoing economic viability of the harbor, which generates an estimated $6.9 million in revenue for the local economy.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Feb. 7, 2024) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and community partners are presenting the annual Procurement Opportunities Conference/Small Business Industry Day 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Avon Williams Campus of Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee.
  • NYS general permit now available: Expedited response after major storm events

    The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have issued the first State Programmatic General Permit (NYSPGP-1), which authorizes activities to facilitate the recovery and restoration of damaged properties, projects, aquatic resources, and infrastructure following major storm events. NYSPGP-1 ensures important environmental safeguards and encourages best management practices while agencies work to bring infrastructure back online and retore quality of life for communities quickly, and without unnecessary reviews. This permit will also help project sponsors and the public obtain any Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) reimbursements they may be eligible for following specific storm events that are declared federal disasters.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, inducted Regional Business Director Phil Johnson to the Senior Executive Service during a ceremony Jan. 30 at division headquarters in Cincinnati. Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, 55th chief of engineers and USACE commanding general, presided over the ceremony and recognized Johnson on this achievement.

    In the wake of a tornado last month that skirted Old Hickory Dam, an extensive recovery is underway to restore communications and rebuild after the twister destroyed key facilities with its 125 mph winds.
  • 2024 Black Rock Lock Operations Schedule Announced

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District is announcing the Black Rock Lock operations schedule for the 2024 navigation season. The Black Rock Lock is one of three lock systems operated and maintained by USACE on the U.S. side of the Great Lakes and allows boats to bypass the rapids and fast currents of the Niagara River at the outlet of Lake Erie. More than 2,300 vessels and 94,000 metric tons of commerce passed through the lock in fiscal year 2023.
