More than 35 years before pioneering the middle school STEM program called STEM EDA between USACE and the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), Pittsburgh District Park Rangers paved the way, introducing engineering concepts to students by teaching Ecology lessons at Woodcock Creek Lake in Meadville, Pa., using hands-on projects to help connect them to real-world careers in STEM.
