Planning Services
The Great Lakes & Ohio River Division (LRD) works with communities, Tribes, and partners to solve water-resources challenges. Our planners help identify problems, explore solutions, and deliver projects that improve safety, the environment, and the economy.
What We Do
USACE planning is a collaborative process that balances economic, environmental, and social benefits. We partner with you to:
- Reduce flood and coastal storm risks
- Maintain safe, efficient navigation
- Restore aquatic ecosystems
- Support municipal and industrial water supply
- Enhance recreation and public access
- Integrate multiple purposes into comprehensive watershed solutions
How It Works
- Contact Your District — Reach out to the USACE District that covers your location.
- Define the Need — We work with you to understand challenges, opportunities, and desired outcomes.
- Explore Solutions — Planners evaluate alternatives, costs, benefits, and risks.
- Develop a Plan — Together, we identify the best solution that meets your needs and federal requirements.
Most projects begin with a feasibility study that is cost-shared between USACE and a non-federal sponsor.
