When trees fly: Pittsburgh District delivers new fish habitats on Ohio River

The Pittsburgh District used a helicopter to lift 29 trees bundles and concrete blocks to create a new fish habitat in a water basin on the Ohio River.

Pittsburgh District joins Duquesne University to form a stunning partnership

Every organization says they are a learning organization, but the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has taken its quest for innovation to a stunning level. During the 2021 recreation season, experts from the Pittsburgh District began a partnership with Duquesne University’s biology department. The goal was to test water quality within Crooked Creek Lake’s watershed called an “electrofishing survey,” which the corps had not used before.

Sections of bio acoustic fish fence submerged at Barkley Lock

GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Oct. 9, 2019) – Crews are submerging and installing sections of a bio acoustic fish fence on the downstream side of Barkley Lock this week as part of an experiment to deter the passage of Asian carp with a wall of bubbles, sound and light.
