    Stay alert on Corps lakes and rivers this summer

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 21, 2026) – As summer recreation kicks off over the Memorial Day weekend across the Cumberland River Basin, officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District are urging visitors to wear life jackets and stay safe recreating on the region’s lakes and rivers.

    Nashville District employees don life jackets for public safety campaign

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 15, 2026) – As summer approaches, the vibrant reservoirs and waterways of the Cumberland River Basin are drawing boaters, anglers, and water sports enthusiasts back to the water. In anticipation of the peak recreation season, park rangers and water safety officials are emphasizing the critical importance of public safety and personal responsibility at all Corps projects.

Known as one of the region’s premier outdoor destinations, the basin invites travelers to trade screen time for sunshine across a sprawling network of more than 20,000 miles of scenic rivers and streams.

    Rangers complete readiness training, gear up for recreation season

    CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (March 17, 2026) – In preparation for the 2026 recreation season, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District hosted its annual Park Ranger Workshop March 10–12 at Chattanooga State Community College. More than 50 rangers representing 10 lakes headed to the Erlanger Health Science Center for critical instruction on wilderness first aid, visitor assistance, and encroachment management, ensuring they are fully equipped to handle the complexities of shoreline management, public engagement, and water safety this year.

As the Army and USACE mark a quarter-millennium of service this month, it’s fitting to highlight the Nashville District’s enduring legacy in shaping the landscape of the region, reducing flood risk, powering communities, establishing navigation, promoting safe recreation, and stewarding natural resources.

    Water Quality Program manager lauded for navigating Nashville District through murky waters

    From Flood Control to Hydropower: Unveiling the Legacy of Dale Hollow Lake and Dam

    CELINA, Tenn. (July. 20, 2023) – A monumental feat of engineering and progress stands tall in the heart of the Cumberland River basin. Dale Hollow Dam and Lake, authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1938 and the River and Harbor Act of 1946, emerged to control the floodwaters of the Obey River and contribute to the reduction of flood levels at municipal, industrial, and agricultural areas along the Cumberland, lower Ohio, and Mississippi Rivers.
