Nashville District invests in tomorrow’s leaders through leadership program

Eighteen employees from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District graduated from the Level I Leadership Development Program, which focused on self-awareness, communication, and adaptable leadership. Louisville District employee earns place on All-Guard Marathon team

Along with serving in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District as the Area Engineer for the Louisville VA Medical Center mega-project, Terry Durham also serves an officer in the Kentucky Army National Guard. As if that isn’t enough to keep him busy, he is also an avid runner, so much so that he has recently achieved multiple running goals.

USACE, Chicago District employees recognized for contributions to Army Engineering in de Fleury Medal ceremonies

As part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Chicago District Engineer Day and annual awards ceremony, District Commander Colonel Kenneth Rockwell recognized the following distinguished employees this month with the Steel Order of the de Fleury Medal: Garth Stout, Maintenance Mechanic at J.E. Roush Lake; David Peterson, Chief Engineer of the Tug Kenosha; Brandon Strickland, Lockport Lockmaster; and Maria Brambila, Administrative Support Assistant for the Operations and Regulatory Division. Medals for Stout and Peterson were distributed at separate awards ceremonies. These employees were honored for their significant contributions to Army Engineering.

Beattyville flood reunites USACE engineer and Kentucky teacher

When Jacob Sinkhorn joined a routine conference call about a flood risk management study in Beattyville, Kentucky, he didn’t expect the conversation to turn into an elementary school reunion. As a project manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, Sinkhorn was focused on the technical, community and environmental aspects of the study—until a familiar name on the participant list caught his attention: Kitty Dougoud.

Black belts and boundary lines: Real estate specialist lives a double life of discipline and defense

Jeffrey Horneman works for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District as the deputy chief of the real estate office. Horneman has volunteered to provide free Taekwondo classes to youth through a martial arts nonprofit for the last 20 years. He has taught students as young as three years old. His classes have produced 12 black belts.
